Advice on Micro Chipping PDF Print E-mail

Advise on Micro chipping your pet.

You would be lost without your pet

Of course you would. However, even the best loved and well-trained animals can escape or get lost – they could get out accidently through doors or windows left open by children or visitors, be frightened by loud or strange noises, wander off whilst on holiday… the possibilities are endless.

Whatever the reason, you can’t be sure that a collar and tag will still be there and be legible when the animal is found.

The Frightening facts

Every day unidentified pets are humanely destroyed in animal homes throughout the country. Many of these animals could have been reunited with their worried owners if only they could have been identified.

Please note: PUP NEVER destroys any healthy animal that ends up in our care. We will reunite animals and their owners if the animal is micro chipped.

What can you do?

The good news is that there is a simple way to ensure that your pet can be easily identified wherever he or she goes. Micro chipping is the permanent answer. A tiny microchip with an identification code unique to you and your pet is injected under the skin in the same way that vaccines are administered. If you have more than one pet, each one can be identified separately and each will be given its own unique identification code.

It is now standard practice for many rescue centres and welfare societies, vets, dog wardens, police, etc. to scan any stray animal that is picked up. The scanner will detect the microchip and read the unique code in much the same way as barcodes are read at supermarket checkouts. All your details are recorded on a computer database, which is available 24 hrs a day. When your details are retrieved you will be contacted immediately.

Micro chipping is completely safe for your pet and causes no more discomfort than any other injection. In dogs and cats it is permanently placed in the loose skin at the back of the neck and can be used in pets of any age, breed or species, from Great Danes to budgerigars.
